Job Description

Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor s Degree, Post Graduate Diploma, Professional Degree, Finance/Accountancy/Banking or equivalent.At least 5 year(s) of working experience in the related field is required for this position.Preferably Managers specializing in Banking/Financial Services or equivalent.Full-Time position(s) available.CONTEXT OF THE JOB1. The narrow scope of revenue generation for state governments as provided by the federal constitution results in an over dependence on land-based revenues and natural resource extractive activities such as logging and mining for the state. This is further exacerbated by inadequate incentives for forest conservation efforts and lack of capacity to generate alternative revenue and explore more innovative income-generating ventures in general. However, to date, there are few efforts by the federal government to improve fiscal transfer to the states as a way to address such restrictive scope of income generation.2. With land locked by the gazetted paddy fields on its western plains, and saddled with the responsibilities of protecting the water catchment forests for the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia on its eastern borders, the state of Kedah has limitations to develop its land. However, there exists an untapped opportunity to explore and pilot innovative yet sustainable ways for revenue generation. Currently, one source of revenue is levy generated from timber harvested in Ulu Muda Forest Complex. However, logging activities may result in hidden costs that will need to be borne by the future generation.3. Finding and unlocking sustainable financing solutions for Kedah state government is a priority to improve her financial position to protect its natural environment. One such solution requires close engagement and participation from all beneficiaries of the state’s natural resources (especially its water resources) including the industrial sectors in Kedah as well as the state of Penang.4. This position is set to drive stakeholder engagement towards developing the financing solution. While the incumbent is responsible for specific deliverables related to the PMTC Programme, he/she will also be guided by and is expected to contribute towards the achievement of WWF-Malaysia Strategy 2012-2020, national policy outcomes and Global Practices, directly or indirectly, as well as the sustainable finance strategy.MAJOR FUNCTIONS1. To assist and support the Protected Areas Lead to carry out engagement and advocacy work across the industrial sector in Kedah and any other industrial beneficiaries in Penang and Perlis.2. To assist in driving the design and development of the sustainable landscape project in Kedah in collaboration with the Landscape Finance Lab. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES1. Develop strategies for private sector engagement for the relevant industries located in the landscape and conduct appropriate engagement with them based on the strategy.2. Research and continually be updated with progress on subjects related to relevant industry’s transformative work such as (but not limited to) sustainable supply chain and natural capital accounting.3. Manage stakeholder engagement including acting as the main liaison for the organization, organize consultation sessions and manage the multi-stakeholder platform (platform to be determined at a later stage).4. Increase linkages and collaborations with other key stakeholders and partners, such as government agencies, businesses and industries, communities, non-government agencies and media, towards driving the sustainable landscape project in Kedah.5. Identify opportunities and channels for development and promotion of sustainable project initiatives for conservation and recommendations relevant to the PMTC programme.6. Assist the Protected Areas team in implementing the other aspects of work in Ulu Muda with reference to the Protected Areas Strategy for WWF-Malaysia’s Peninsular Malaysia Terrestrial Conservation Strategy FY19 – FY21.7. Project management: funding proposal development, monitoring, evaluating, budgeting and reporting of project performance against planned objectives, deliverables and milestones.8. Ensure appropriate representation of WWF-Malaysia’s views and positions when delegated with the responsibility to represent the organisation on government initiated committees, NGO committees, advisory groups and other relevant bodies within Malaysia in the field of sustainable financing.9. Serve as the focal person in the PMTC programme to liaise with and participate in internal meetings / forums which can benefit from technical sustainable financing and corporate engagement inputs.10. Provide and ensure effective supervision, guidance, coaching, motivation, performance monitoring/management of all direct supervisees, and to assist with the identification/facilitation of appropriate training during the course of their service or during their Annual Performance Appraisal process.Participate wholeheartedly in the general activities of WWF-Malaysia, particularly events and activities that require the full support and participation of all staff, whether or not the focus of any particular event or activity has any bearing on your job description and assigned project objectives and activities.In the course of performing the duties as set out in this Job Description, the incumbent may be exposed to challenging working conditions, especially for field-based staff members. A graduate with related academic/professional background in either conservation biology, forestry, natural resources management, environmental management, environmental sciences or conservation stewardship is preferred. However, a degree or professional experience in the following fields such as finance, accounting, management, business development, risk management, business administration, international business and management would be an added advantage due to the nature of this position.2. Minimum 5 years working experience in a related field and similar capacity.3. Demonstrates good understanding of current issues especially having knowledge on environmental and conservation issues. Working knowledge of business practices drivers and risks applicable to Peninsular Malaysia is required.4. Mature, able to work with minimal supervision, and has the capacity to make decisions and act on issues with professionalism.5. Computer literate and have the ability to use appropriate technology for presentation to partners, stakeholders and potential donors.6. Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English and Bahasa Malaysia.7. Organising and management skills are required.8. Possess good analytical skills, innovative and critical thinking, interpersonal skills, versatile ability to work in a team and work independently.9. Able to accept challenges constantly.10. Able to work collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders11. Willing to travel as and when required; and possess a valid driving license.12. Pleasant disposition, hard-working, team player, committed, dedicated and focused on the conservation cause.REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES1.
