Role Objective:Support the relevant Category and build strong product lines to meet sales, margins, merchandising and profit objectives.Responsibilities:Business AcumenHave clear understanding of company’s direction and goal and align the Category specific buying plan and strategy.Lead team and inspire Company’s goal & direction into their day to day work to create alignment/line of sight.Monitor market changes and its impact on potential negotiations.Co-ordinate appropriate departments for new products to ensure support from the design brief to product.Buying Strategy Planning & FinancialsWork between quantum profit and margins, buying and commercial gross to close the deal and achieve KPI’s based on category.Drive innovative ways to grow category sales whilst maintaining the specification via value chain.Understand centre budget and provide/obtain feedback to Management ways to reduce costs.Range ManagementDevelop up-to-date market knowledge of products and sources to enable quick speed to market of new product releases.Develop a product assortment plan that takes into consideration the past performance and observed trends in the market to ensure the range is aligned with department, company strategy and consumer needs.Ensure the product range is built to the plan.Manage stock and catalogue commitment in line with agreed promotional activities and peak sales opportunities. Manage catalogue planning at all times ensuring catalogues meet customer profiles and reflects the correct range of product mix to fully maximise on market opportunities.Allocate and tailoring store ranges to meet store / local requirements.Manage the range once it is in the store to monitor sales performance against plan and inventory levels against plan so that timely remedial action can be taken when necessary.Monitor performance of products and suppliers against technical, legal and safety requirements.Review and analyse the overall range performance against the plan.Collaborate with visual merchandiser to ensure effective product display and generate sales conversion.Supplier ManagementNegotiate with suppliers to maximise the product range’s sales, profit and margin and deliver within budget.Determine best sources for merchandise and negotiate buying agreements including requirements for pricing, quality, delivery, routing, warranty, and returns.Support Merchandising Team in ensuring the agreed products are delivered to the store in a timely, efficient and effective manner.Responsible for de-listing and listing suppliers by following a process and escalates issues with resolution where appropriate.Continue seek opportunities, often in conjunction with suppliers, to reduce overall costs and improve processes in the supply chain.Balance and manage the key levers for stores and suppliers to ensure efficient flow of merchandise to deliver the most attractive offer for customers.Project ManagementDevelop new product development, price and promotions strategy for the product portfolio.Identify opportunities to improve sales and margin, alongside continuous improvement of processes.Identify ways to continually improve operational costs and efficiency.Apply creativity to spot opportunities for strengthening product range.Improve ways of informing and equipping stores to deliver product.Promotions & PricingRecommend markdowns and necessary liquidation actions for slow selling items.Conduct promotional analysis and measure promotional performance; setting optimal promotional pricing levels.Work with suppliers to promote sales and product knowledge training in stores.People ManagementSet clearly defined objectives based on Company KPIs and Goals.Mobilise and communicate so everyone knows what needs to be done to achieve results (Ensuring Understanding).Gain the hearts and minds of others to get things done.Coach and Support teams/individuals to deliver and sustain results.OthersUse experience, analysis and judgement to focus on what is important to deliver customer value and make money.Create simple and affordable plans with resources required to deliver workable solutions.Support Internal Audit team in executing all compliance and development of risk management controls and activities for your division.Ensure articulation of company’s desired image and position and assures consistent communication both internally and externally.Requirements:Formal Education & CertificationPreferably Diploma or Degree in Retail Management or Business or Accounting background.Knowledge & ExperienceMore than 5 to 8 years of retail buying experienceTrack record of successfully category management.Strong commercial and market understanding and forecasting experience.Personal AttributesGood negotiation and influence ability with acumen for buying.Financially savvy with strong decision-making skills.Ability to analyse sales figures; good analytical skills and good business sense.Strong sense of customer service.Good interpersonal and relationship building ability.Confident with high sense of responsibility.Ability to solve problems and make effective decisions.Ability to work under pressure in a fast pace working environment; adapt to challenging situations.Ability to handle and prioritise multiple tasks simultaneously.Strong time management and organisational skills.High level of business ethics and integrity.
