Job Description


Main Accountabilities

Support the YL Management team by
• Providing support to teachers and working with them to meet young learner students’ needs
• Keeping teaching materials and classrooms organized, well-maintained
• Receiving feedback from teachers, students and parents

• Maintaining good relationships with customers and colleagues
• Ensuring the safety of the children in the building

Main duties
1 Meet with the class teacher 15 minutes before class to find out what’s happening that day and take any extra materials or equipment to the classroom

2 Be in the classroom 5 minutes before the class starts to welcome students and help them settle in
3 Assist teachers with classroom management, helping students who are struggling by asking them questions in English and encouraging them

4 Bring any sick children out of the classroom to the Senior teacher
5 Regularly put up high quality displays of student work and keep them neat and well presented
6 Support local marketing and promotional strategy, by delivering excellent customer service by answering parents’ questions or directing them to the appropriate person

7 Uphold our child protection systems and procedures for leaving the building by going to the designated exit to check children’s tags and if parents are late, helping CS staff to phone the parents, supervise the children at all times while they are waiting, and record late parents and the collection time in the late book

8 Monitor students before class and during break times by walking around and employing positive discipline methods to make sure young learners don’t run, are safe in the building and behave appropriately

9 Act as fire safety officer

Other important features or requirements of the job
• YL classes are conducted on Saturdays and Sundays and YLAs are required to work on either or both days depending on the needs of the centre

• YLAs need to commit to all weekends of the term once they agree to the shift
• The first year will be probationary for all YLAs
• YLAs can give their shift preference and we try to meet these, however this cannot be guaranteed

Role Requirements

• You must have the right to live and work in the country in which the role is based
• The post is specifically for Malaysians or holders of Malaysian Permanent Residence status

Direct contact or managing staff working with children

• Pre-employment medical check-up and reference checks will be carried out prior to successful appointment to the post
• The incumbent is also required to provide police check record All the conditions must be completed prior to post


• Candidate must possess at least a Higher Secondary/STPM/"A" Level/Pre-U, Professional Certificate, Diploma, Advanced/Higher/Graduate Diploma, any field

• Required language(s) Bahasa Malaysia, English

• Applicants must be willing to work in George Town,Penang

• Experience of working with children

• Knowledge and understanding of child development and its impact on learning and behaviourKnowledge and understanding of child development and its impact on learning and behaviour

• Ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and well-being of children
• Effective communication and engagement with children and their families

• Applicants will be paid at the rate of RM1000 per hour

• Part-Time and Contract position(s) available
